The region’s natural setting makes it ideal for outdoor activities. Road and mountain bikers can explore over 150 km of cycling trails and the famous Mont SM. Hikers will find plenty of scenic routes in La Mauricie National Park, and anglers can cast their lines in one of the area’s countless lakes—Saint-Alexis-des-Monts alone boasts 600! 🫢

Agrotourism enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy among the local farms and shops showcasing regional products and handcrafted goods.

And, of course, you can’t talk about Maski without mentioning its famous nature resorts. Few destinations in Québec rival the sense of escape offered by Hôtel Sacacomie, Pourvoirie du Lac Blanc, Auberge du Lac-à-l’Eau-Claire, and Le Baluchon Éco-villégiature.

Fun facts about Maskinongé

  • The municipality of Louiseville (Maskinongé’s most populated town) was named after Princess Louise of England, daughter of Queen Victoria.
  • The name “Maskinongé” comes from the Algonquin word for “crooked pike.” The fish was once abundant in the river that bears the same name.
  • The town of Saint-Alexis-des-Monts alone has 600 lakes—plenty of fishing opportunities, crooked or not! 🎣
  • Beloved storyteller Fred Pellerin was born in the charming village of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, giving rise to an entire world of tales and legends unique to the region. 🥰
  • In Saint-Paulin, you’ll find the Chemin du Bout-du-Monde (“End of the World Road”). In the past, this northern road led to unsettled lands. A post office was established there under the same name, and American tourists who came to hunt and fish would have their mail stamped “From the End of the World” as proof of their far-flung adventures.

Tourisme Mauricie is a bit like a loving mom. She has six “kids”—the region’s six territories—and she loves them all equally (well, almost. Everyone knows the little rascal is always the most charming one 🤫). And as a good mom with no favourites, she’ll tell you all her kids are the BEST. So don’t hesitate to reach out for advice and activity ideas about each territory! (Wait, did we really just compare ourselves to a loving mom?)
