TCHIN-TCHIN
Mauricie Cocktail
In Mauricie, we’re big fans of happy hour. Those little moments spent enjoying life with friends. But more than anything, we’re fans of local flavours. That’s why we put together a laid-back competition guaranteed to spread a bit of joy across the region’s bellies (starting with yours 🫵—because let’s be honest, you’re not here for nothing): a cocktail contest featuring Mauricie-inspired creations. So go on, scroll down, friend… and discover the official cocktail of Mauricie! (And the ones that came very close to stealing the spotlight. 🤤)
10 businesses. 5 judges. 1 winner.
Tchin-Tchin is a project that was born out of one of those deep “watercooler chats” with work buddies, which went something like this (because let’s be real—we’re not here to down words, but cocktails):
- Hey… cocktails are good. Wouldn’t it be fun to have one that really represents us?
- LET’S DO IT!
And so, we launched a call for proposals to local businesses. Their mission? To wow our taste buds 🙌 with a cocktail that looks great, tastes amazing, is easy to make, and highlights local products. Partnerships between different businesses—restaurants, distilleries, microbreweries, farms, you name it—were strongly encouraged. Because what can we say…
... We love collabs
The competition took place at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Trois-Rivières, where a panel of five judges from across Mauricie’s tourism and culinary scene had the task of choosing THE cocktail that best captures the essence of our region. 👈 Meet our three finalists. 👇 Or skip straight to the grand winner.
The official Mauricie cocktail: La 155 Nord
Created by mixologist Jean-Sébastien Rondeau from Le Pot – Papilles et Cocktails (and with a name like that, you know it had to be good), La 155 Nord pays tribute to the forested side of our region. Just like the scenic Route 155—bordered by vast forests and offering stunning views of the Saint-Maurice River, one of our star attractions 🤳—this cocktail invites you to experience the great outdoors that makes Mauricie such a remarkable playground.
Both the road and the drink take you on that same journey—through forests, greenery, and landscapes larger than life. Cheers to the discovery!
The ingredients of this Cocktail
That forest-like, woodsy touch comes alive through the ingredients that make up La 155 Nord.
First, there’s the renowned Conifere Gin from Wabasso Distillery, infused with notes of spruce beer, lemon, and rosemary. Winner of Double Gold at competitions in New York, San Francisco, and Singapore in 2023, this gin pairs beautifully with Amaretto Avril from Distillerie Mariana, another star ingredient of the cocktail. Maple syrup and sweet gale (a shrub with bluish-green leaves that grows along riverbanks) bring an original twist to this Italian classic.
To these two local spirits, we add maple syrup infused with conifers from La Ferme du Loup and freshly pressed haskap juice. This small blue-purple berry, rich in antioxidants, has a flavour that blends blueberry, raspberry, and blackcurrant. In Québec, haskap berries are in season from late June to late July, depending on the weather.
