Located east of the Mauricie, the Des Chenaux region is the gateway to the area for those arriving from Quebec. Our suggestion if you travel nearby? Say goodbye to the monotonous highway landscapes 👋 and set your course on the Chemin du Roy. Skirting the river and traversing the whole region, Route 138 offers visitors breathtaking river and rural panoramas. Regional Portrait

Although the entire Maurician territory delights epicureans, this is especially true in the Des Chenaux region. The blend between cultural heritage, rural traditions, and the natural setting offered by the Saint Lawrence River (hello, beautiful views 📸) creates a unique atmosphere that calls for escapism and road trips.

And we owe that also to the land-based brother of the Saint Lawrence River: the Chemin du Roy. Crossing the entire Des Chenaux region up to Trois-Rivières, this oldest road in North America highlights the rural and historical character of the region.

Dotted with period homes, small churches, and bucolic landscapes (you’re starting to understand how beautiful Des Chenaux is? 😍), this emblematic road invites visitors on a journey back in time to discover the colonial history of New France. Just take a tour of the Old Presbytery of Batiscan or the Sainte-Anne Seigniorial Domain to be convinced! And the local villages enhance this feeling of rustic escapism with their markets, craft shops, and inns.

In this regard, be sure to visit the Barry Orchard, L’Ancêtre Cheese Factory, Boissons du Roy, Simon de l’Atlantique, and local microbreweries. You can taste the regional flavors and enjoy the legendary hospitality of the locals. 🕺

In winter, don’t miss the famous Des Chenaux ice fishing in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade. Every year, the frozen river hosts about 500 heated fishing cabins that invite families and friends to fish for tomcod and enjoy life in good company. Other must-see spots in the region include the Batiscan River Park and the Enchanted Domain (with its magical maze of icy trails).

The Must-Sees

Whether you’re a fan of history, good food, or local craftsmanship, one thing’s for sure: you’ll find your happiness, blown by the wind, in the Des Chenaux region! Here are some places we suggest for escaping the crowd and daily hustle.

Tourism Mauricie is like a doting mom. She has had 6 offspring – the region’s 6 territories – that she loves equally (or almost. Everyone knows the little rascal is always the most endearing 🤨). And, as a good mother without a favorite, she will tell you that her children are the BEST. So, don’t hesitate to consult them to get advice and activities for their respective territories! (Did we really just compare ourselves to a doting mom?)
